New Orleans Day Four 7.29.2021: “Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Finally got a chance to really explore the city today. I must say two things…#1 I do not see the “hype” of Bourbon Street. Maybe it was because it was during the day. Maybe its because I was sober. Heck, maybe it’s just because I’m getting old…but I found no enjoyment in Bourbon Street. Like at all. It was dirty, crowded, smelly, and every time I turned around someone was invading my space in a way that made me feel way uncomfortable. Not in a “they’re trying to be friendly” type of way that we have found throughout the rest of the city. More like a “I’m trying to figure out if I can get something from you” type of way. Maybe it was just that the small confines of the area set off my PTSD. Who knows.

The #2 thing….beignets. Give me all the beignets. Oh…my…LAWD! Have mercy! Those darn things are so good that we ended up getting some to go to bring back to the hotel for a snack. OG Fat Girl status right there. In all seriousness…if you’re ever in NOLA it is an absolute crime not to pick up some of the sugary confections. Just saying.

We utilized the double decker bus and finally had a chance to hop on the trolley today. While both experiences were enjoyable, we actually had more fun on the trolley than we did on the double decker despite the fact that the trolley’s do not have air conditioning.

Tomorrow is our last full official day in New Orleans. Part of me is longing for home, but something tells me that part of me is going to remain in NOLA. One day….I will be back.
